LIFE LANNER AT THE SIE CONFERENCE

From 14 to 16 September, the XXXI Congress of the Italian Society of Ethology (SIE) was held at the Bioparco Foundation in Rome, organized in collaboration with the Italian Primatologists Association (API).

It was an important opportunity for discussion with researchers and professionals who study animal behavior, and within this context we had the chance to present the work carried out as part of the LIFE Lanner project during the Behavioral Ecology session.

Our contribution illustrated the process that led to the development and definition of the release method for the Lanner Falcon, starting from the initial attempts and the challenges encountered, up to the current controlled hacking approach based on social imprinting.

We also presented the results obtained through the analysis of GPS data from the released individuals, examining the development of autonomy, movements, and space use after release.

It was a valuable occasion to compare field conservation work with the perspective of ethology, and to share a continuously evolving process in which behavioral observation has been essential to understand what worked and what needed to be adjusted.
