Duna’s Journey: Recent Updates

Duna, the first Lanner falcon to leave the release area this year, was recovered in Calabria just a few days after her departure. Following a brief rehabilitation period—during which she regained strength and practiced flying and hunting—she was able to resume her dispersal journey in search of a stable territory.

Throughout her travels, she explored various regions, spending several days in the landscapes of the Vena del Gesso (BO), an area historically frequented by the species for nesting (Boldreghini, Santolini 1994), thanks to the presence of suitable habitats.

Currently, after more than sixty days of autonomy, Duna has settled in the Parma region, where she feeds in agricultural areas and finds shelter on more isolated areas.

Meanwhile, the other individuals released in 2025—two young males and Dafne, the last chick born this year—are also continuing their journeys, each in different parts of the Italian peninsula.
