Duna is still roaming in the Parma area
Sightings continue in the Parma area of one of the individuals released during the 2025 season: Duna, a young female who has chosen to settle in Northern Italy.
A decision that may seem unusual today, but takes on a very different meaning when we look to the past: just a little over 20 years ago, a few breeding pairs were still present in Emilia-Romagna, considered the northernmost limit of the species’ nesting range.

Duna seems to have taken a liking to these landscapes, spending most of her time in the agricultural areas surrounding the fields. She enjoys the area… but for months it has been wrapped in fog, and her GPS struggles to recharge enough to transmit her locations regularly.
All we can do now is wait for sunnier days — and who knows, with spring on the way, she might decide to explore new places!
A special thank you to photographer Emanuela Battistini for these wonderful shots, and to all observers who keep us constantly updated on her condition.
