New captive breeding lab at Lake Vico rescue centre
An important update in view of the upcoming breeding season. We just finished turning a room of the rescue centre of the Lago di Vico Natural Reserve into a laboratory for the captive breeding of lanner falcons.
The room is equipped with a fully automatic R-COM R-20 egg incubator, a R-COM hot chamber to keep chicks from hatching up to 8/9 days of age and an Egg Monitor, able of displaying the heartbeat of an embryo inside the egg. All instruments are connected to uninterruptible power supplies which provide a few hours of operation, guaranteeing the chicks’ health in the event of a power failure.
